Tuesday’s 10 Must read websites (Especially if you have a daughter)

Actually, I would recommend these sites for all parents.

* Pigtail Pals – Personally, I’ve about had it with seeing thongs, bras and other inappropriate types of clothing being marketed towards young girls. More and more we see example after example of our children’s innocence being sacrificed for the almighty dollar. I’m glad that Melissa Wardy has taken on this fight, not just with her business but with this blog. Read the latest post.

* Shaping Youth – Another blog which looks at how the media markets towards youth. Very interesting stuff with a TON of links and resources. Read the latest post.

* The Girl Revolution – This blog was designed to help parents raise powerful daughters with their sole mission being to revolutionize the way we think about, treat, and raise girls. Read some of the press on GR.

* New Moon Girls – A magazine created by and for girls that is ad-free and dedicated to to helping girls discover and honor their true selves.

* Dads and Daughters – A site started by fathering expert, Joe Kelly (The Dadman), as a spot for thoughts and reflections about the unique and powerful relationships between daughters and their fathers.

* True Child – A site created by a group of concerned parents and experts who wanted to ensure children could achieve their full potential and not be held back by narrow stereotypes for boys and girls.

* Sesame Workshop – I especially like the Respect & Understanding initiative which strives to help children gain empathy for others and to learn how to appreciate and understand other people and cultures.

* Michele Borba - Lots of amazing resources here. Her Big Book of Parenting Solutions is on my to-read list!

* Girls Inc. – A national non-profit working to inspire all girls to be bold, smart and strong. I like their Girls’ Bill of Rights.

* So Sexy, So SoonA blog looking at the interplay between media, marketing and children. Lots of great posts and resources on here.

So what have I missed? Anything you’d recommend?

We simply must do better with raising our daughters. They deserve nothing less. The very same can be said for our sons.

I’ve been writing a series about raising daughters with a healthy self esteem and found this site: http://www.girlshealth.gov/ that you might want to check out. I’ve bookmarked all of these sites and will visit them when I can really dig in.
