Welcome to my 22nd Dad Blog Review! If you’re not aware of it by now, 2010 is indeed the YEAR OF THE DAD BLOG! However, as a reminder, my intention for doing the reviews is to simply promote positive fatherhood. I’m not going to rank the blogs I review or try and find the “best” dad blog. For me, it’s a matter of promoting the great diversity of dad blogs and to share the joys of fatherhood present in these blogs. If this is your first visit, thanks for coming by. I hope you will check out some of the other dad blogs I’ve reviewed. If you are a dad blogger and would like your blog reviewed, simply contact me and I will add you to the schedule.
What is the DADvocate Project?
The underlying hypothesis of the project is that today’s generation of dads is more involved in family life than ever before. While many of us dads truly believe this, Kevin Metzger has decided to do some research to prove this is so.
There are three phases to the project:
1.) The Survey
2.) The Interviews
3.) The final phase will consist of a published book where the data from the survey and interviews will be compiled to hopefully prove the hypothesis and tell the story of who today’s dads really are.
The man behind the project
Kevin Metzger and I grew up within 10 minutes of each other. We went to rival high schools, but never knew of each other’s existence until he started the DADvocate Project. I believe I was his second interview in the project and it was a great pleasure to get to know and to speak with Kevin.
Kevin is indeed the full embodiment of a DADvocate. Not only does Kevin advocate on behalf of fathers and positive fatherhood, but also advocates strongly on behalf of one of his daughters, Haley, who was born with Cerebral Palsy. Although Kevin is only doing what any terrific DADvocate would do, I have to say I really admire Kevin and his family for the incredible support and advocacy they show for their daughter.
One of the ways in which the Metzger’s advocated is in their support of Haley writing a book about what it is like to live with Cerebral Palsy. This is a fantastic idea and a powerful way to teach others to show empathy for people with special needs. Kevin graciously sent me two copies of the book: one autographed by Haley to my daughter, and one for me to giveaway on Book Dads. Look for a review and the giveaway of the book this week.
Kevin has another blog: My Spelling Sucks which chronicles his own experiences as someone living with ADD and Dyslexia, while also discussing his daughter’s Cerebral Palsy.
My plug for the project
Today’s review is a little different than the other ones I have done as I’m not really giving you posts to look at and am not really reviewing the blog as much as I am endorsing Kevin’s DADvocate Project.
I really hope that, at the very least, the dads out there will take a few minutes and fill out the survey or even better, contact Kevin to set up an interview. The interviews are generally anywhere from 45 minutes to an hour long and Kevin will work around your schedule and needs. He really is a stand up guy and I think you will enjoy getting to know Kevin.
I look forward to following this project and seeing the results.

I haven’t done Kevin’s survey yet, but it sounds like something I would be interested in. Kevin, if you haven’t heard from me sometime soon, don’t let me forget.
Hey James,
I let Kevin know you were interested in the survey. He’ll probably try and get in touch with you.
