Dad Blog Review: People in the Sun

Topics: Dad Blog Review

Today is the 24th Dad Blog Review! If you’re not aware of it by now, 2010 is indeed the YEAR OF THE DAD BLOG! However, as a reminder, my intention for doing the reviews is to simply promote positive fatherhood. I’m not going to rank the blogs I review or try and find the “best” dad blog. For me, it’s a matter of promoting the great diversity of dad blogs and to share the joys of fatherhood present in these blogs. If this is your first visit, thanks for coming by. I hope you will check out some of the other dad blogs I’ve reviewed. If you are a dad blogger and would like your blog reviewed, simply contact me and I will add you to the schedule (updated as of July 10th).

Who is People in the Sun?

First, some background. If you’re not familiar with @peopleinthesun, you might know him as @bloggerfather. The latter authors an all dad blog. It’s what we think of when we think of a dad blog. He reviews other dad bloggers, like I do, and throws in lots of dad stuff in between. The former, and subject of today’s review, writes a blog which talks about dad stuff, but also has some politics and other thoughts thrown in.

I was more familiar with A Blogger and a Father, even before I was reviewed on there. It was awesome to be the subject of a dad review, and from there is where I learned that People in the Sun and A Blogger and a Father were both written by the same blogger.

So this stay at home dad and I have a lot in common:

* We’re both SAHDs. (I have one daughter – he has a son and daughter).

* We both have a B.A in Literature (which more than anything probably tells you we didn’t know what we wanted to be when we grow up).

* We both love The Wire. (He lives in Baltimore where The Wire took place. I’ve only visited Baltimore once which happens to be the only time in my life where I was solicited by a prostitute).

* I’m pretty sure we’re also on the same page in terms of politics. Especially when it comes to loving to hear Republicans complain about how soccer is Un-American.

Some really interesting things about @peopleinthesun: He was born and raised in Israel, he was a member of the Israeli Army, he’s worked in a jail…read the About Me page and I’m Not Afraid of Cute to learn more.

My favorites

One of the fun things about doing the blog reviews is that although I may have only been following the “reviewee” for a little while, through doing the review I get to dig through the archives of the blog and see what’s what. Definitely check these out…great stuff!

* My Rite Aid Story – This made me laugh out loud. I think every dad has thought this and has probably experienced it.

* A Beautiful Day in My Neighborhood – Again, laugh out loud funny, but you have to get to the end to see it. I laugh just thinking about it!

* Deconstructing Nick Jr. – We don’t have TV so it’s always interesting to hear what we’re missing. Apparently it’s mostly singing gay animals and a singing tampon.

* The Great Wall of ChinaThe 10 honest facts meme.

* I need a vacation from my vacation – Man, I feel like this every time we go somewhere. Lots of sweet photos of the little boy and even one with Cadet Mahoney from Police Academy. Love it!

* The Terrible Twos and Me – Great post! We’re approaching the 2′s and I already see it coming.

Follow That Blog

I’ve been watching Follow That Bird with Tessa so…

anyway, if all my gushing over this blog makes it seem like I have a man crush, rest assured that I will be checking out this little gem of a link, which I found here on People of the Sun.

Not that there’s anything wrong with having a man crush, but I digress.

What else can I say. People in the Sun has become one of my favorite blogs, and it’s author one of my favorite people I’ve had the privilege to “meet” since I’ve been doing the dad blog thing. If you enjoy a good laugh, some cool pictures and videos, and are into reading the inner thoughts of a stay at home dad, this is the blog for you. And don’t forget to check out the “other blog” - A Blogger and a Father as well, especially if you’re into finding some other great dad bloggers.

Doh! Never made that connection. I guess I am just slow on the uptake. Am a big fan of @BloggerFather and need to get People into my reader pronto.

  4. Chris says:

@SeattleDad – I’m not sure it was public knowledge so much (oops), but I found out after @BloggerFather reviewed my blog.

  5. Thanks, Seattledad. It wasn’t a secret–I just didn’t know how to say it.
